Federal Reserve Cafeteria

by Lisa Degliantoni

When was the last time you paid 85 cents for Huevos Rancheros and 10 cents for toast? Or treated someone for lunch and paid only $3.95 for the hamburger platter? We’re not talking time travel; we’re talking the federally subsidized cafeteria at the Federal Reserve Bank in the heart of Downtown.

Located across Stanton from the Chase Building and open to the public, the Federal Reserve Bank cafeteria provides a relaxed and inexpensive breakfast and lunch option for the Downtown business crowd. Meals are served in a big, bright room, with kitchen tables (just like at home) and a big-screen television.

Open to the public Monday through Friday, diners can sign up for weekly menu updates sent via e-mail. The service is cafeteria style, and the food tastes like good, home- style cooking.

301 Main Ave. Breakfast: 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. Lunch 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Contact: 915.521.5227

Cafe Central

by Rene Leon

Anyone looking to make a good impression on a big business client, or a hot date, knows that it takes style and class to pull it off, and the bar at Café Central is definitely not short on either.

With a view of the chic dining room, the Café Central bar is a cool (as in temperature) place to hang out and just be cool (as in attitude). The bar area offers comfortable stools in a rich, dark wood setting, and there are both large and small tables that are perfect for seating a gathering of friends and family or for an intimate conversation.

When ordering your poison of choice, keep in mind the Mojito Martini – a drink that is certain to cool you off even on the hottest of El Paso days – or nights.
