Alberto's Restaurant

by Juan Carlos Casas

Family owned and operated, Alberto’s Restaurant in Downtown El Paso offers authentic Mexican cuisine for a modest price every day of the week. This cozy restaurant is located on the first floor of the Cortez Building and offers a variety of Mexican dishes, like chiles rellenos, flautas, gorditas, enchiladas, tostadas, tamales and tacos, to the hard-working businessmen and women of Downtown. Best of all, you can combine any of these dishes and enjoy them with delicious frijoles refritos, arroz and una agua fresca de sabor. If you’re still hungry for dessert, try the homemade empanadas or pick some Mexican candy from the basket next to the cash register.

Step out at lunch or after work, and enjoy the intimate and relaxed atmosphere of Alberto’s. Or give them a call, and they will deliver your meal right to your door if you live or work in the Downtown area. Within walking distance from all offices in the heart of our city, Alberto’s will surprise you with its authentic, home-style cooking.

Open every day of the week, breakfast is served until midday, and lunch can be enjoyed until four.

Studio 69

by Mary Johnson

In the heart of the Union Depot district is a mammoth, warehouse-style club that is deliciously raunchy, an establishment almost cliche in its scantily clad clientele and its raucous DJs. But however stereotypical and tacky it may be, it is pure unadulterated fun for those looking to get drunk and dance the night away. The meat and potatoes of the club- no pun intended- is the main dance floor. While you pry your shoes off the sticky floor to bust a move, suspended cages with glass bottoms play host to female (and sometimes male) patrons wiggling to the hip hop beats. Multiple bars throughout the club make mass alcohol consumption almost unavoidable, and an upper level provides premo viewing of all the madness down below: girls shaking, men gawking, periodic screaming when the DJ asks who’s a single lady, who’s a single guy, who’s on Myspace. Of course, if all this leaves you desperate to escape, head over to Studio 69’s adjacent salsa room, offering live music and a little more class to the chaos.
